Reading Is Not Natural
Good readers have strong language processing skills that allow them to hear every sound in every word. They read using this language knowledge, called phonological word memory. By contrast, dyslexics typically have "muddy" phonological word memories. And so they are forced to use memorization and other compensatory reading techniques that are at best inefficient and exhausting, and at worst ineffective.

Brains Can Rewire
The brain is a self-improving organ. By improving auditory processing, our dyslexia program improves phonological word memory accuracy, enabling the brain to learn to read using its language knowledge, like good readers. Reading is easier, less exhausting and reading comprehension develops normally.

Why Fast ForWord For Dyslexia?

The Fast ForWord software is a breakthrough dyslexia program that uses neuroscience-based exercises to improve the underlying language processing and memory skills required for efficient and effective reading. It takes advantage of brain plasticity, the ability of the brain to self-improve.

Dyslexia Is Not Hard-Wired
You have most probably read stories about the amazing transforming capabilities of the brain -- brain-injured soldiers nursed back to full function, brain training for seniors to restore memory, stroke victims regaining full cognitive function after losing 95% of their brain tissue. Scientists confirm that these stories are no fluke. The brain is plastic; it can change. New neural pathways can be created to improve learning skills. Because it ends the learning-is-fixed era, Dr. Norman Doidge calls brain plasticity the most meaningful scientific discovery in the last fifty years.

And yet, you still hear dyslexia -- a cognitive disorder -- described as incurable, a life sentence. And educators love to say "we all learn differently" -- the implication being that learning is fixed and nothing can be done about underlying learning disabilities like dyslexia. Our first hand client experience confirms the science. The underlying skill gaps that cause dyslexia can in most cases be corrected with appropriate training.

Fast ForWord For Dyslexia
We provide help for dyslexia using Fast ForWord, the leading cognitive reading software in North America, already used by over one million students. Fast ForWord works directly on auditory processing skills, helping the brain map the sounds of the English language so that reading can be fluent and automatic. Easier. Then the next phase of the program converts these new cognitive abilities into better reading comprehension, also helping the student learn to think while reading.

This dyslexia program has the intensity required to create new neural pathways. It uses adaptive exercises that build speed and complexity in tiny, incremental steps.

Our Dyslexia Program In Detail

Service Description
For most students our dyslexia program take 3-10 months, working with our software at home for 30 to 50   minutes a day. After each session, data is uploaded to a server where it is reviewed by a Mind Matters Clinics professional who will be your point of contact throughout the program. We develop individualized plans for each students, based on their unique needs and goals.

Mind Matters Clinics is one of the leading at home providers of Fast ForWord in the United States, serving students for over twenty years.

Protocol Steps To Reading Success
There are three main phases to our dyslexia program: building cognitive skills first,  an intensive phonics program, then developing reading fluency and comprehension skills. The cognitive phase varies by student depending on individual starting points and goals -- it will always include either Fast ForWord or Literacy  followed in some cases by Language to Reading (or Literacy Advanced).
Following the one or both of the core Fast ForWord programs, the student begins an intense phonics program, also on the computer. This teaches every single sound and sound combinations for English.  This portion of the treatment programs takes about forty hours, and individuals put in from two to four hours per week on acquiring these phonetic skills.

Our students on a dyslexia program protocol may then move to Fast ForWord Reading, a series of six grade-level appropriate programs that work on reading fluency mechanics -- such as vocabulary, spelling, language structure, sight word recognition -- as well as eradicating bad habits like skipping or guessing words.

The ultimate goal of our dyslexia program is sound reading comprehension. The our multiphase  reading series is heavily focused on this skill, using missing word and categorization exercises that train the student to think while reading, a challenging but essential skill for reading comprehension.

Outcomes
Most Fast ForWord students experience 1-2 grades of improvement in reading in the first few months of service. The gains typically accelerate over the following years as improved cognitive abilities promote development of higher level skills. Because improved cognitive skills are used all day, these gains are enduring. Fast ForWord has been the subject of 700+ white papers, and trials covering 30,000 students. This is an unprecedented amount of research for a dyslexia program.

Dyslexia treatment protocols and outcomes vary by age. Younger children tend to need more work on cognitive fundamentals, while older children need more help in the fluency and thinking skills required for reading comprehension.

Dyslexia Treatment For Adults

Home Based Reading Software With Professional Oversight

  • Do you find yourself needing to re-read entire pages?
  • Are you a slow reader?
  • Do you find it hard to extract the full meaning from text?
  • Do you find it hard to read for long periods?
  • Do you have some exam or certification you just cannot pass due to your weak reading or test taking skills?

If you answered yes to any of these dyslexia symptoms, you are not alone -- dyslexia in adults affects as many as 40 million adults in the US and Canada.

Fast ForWord Reading Program

In most cases, adult dyslexia is treatable. Mind Matters Clinics uses Fast ForWord software, which works on the underlying cause of difficulty to make reading easier. By strengthening processing and memory skills, our dyslexia software makes decoding -- reading the text -- automatic, like riding a bike. If you can read effortlessly, your concentration will improve, your comprehension will improve and you will find reading less tiring. The program then moves to fluency and comprehension exercises, the ultimate goals being to improve reading speed, stamina and comprehension.

Service Description

Our adult dyslexia program is home based with expert remote oversight. We serve adults all over the US and Canada. You run our Fast ForWord software on your home computer and we monitor your progress through your daily Internet uploads. Our programs require at least 30 minutes a day, five times a week for 4 – 6 weeks.

Professional Guidance At Every Step
You will be assigned a dedicated Mind Matters Clinics professional who will guide you through the process -- getting you started, monitoring activity, adjusting protocols as required and available to answer your questions. We send weekly updates on your progress.

Affordable and Convenient
This is a one-time investment. Once you are reading comfortably, the skill is used and exercised every day and so it is now part of you; all in the convenience of your home, working on your own schedule.

Fast and Effective
A chain is as strong as its weakest link. The same applies to the brain. Small cognitive improvements help the entire learning system perform at a higher level. We cannot help in every case, but we are more effective in treating dyslexia in adults than you might think.

Adaptive and Individualized
The software is adaptive so that you work at your own pace. Not only does this mean you won't hit any walls or road blocks as you progress, it is also efficient -- you spend every minute working only on your specific weaknesses. This program also creates the intensity required to rewire how you read. This is a unique feature of our adult dyslexia treatment, of Fast ForWord itself.
